What is important in Blue Sapphire or Neelam

As per Vedic Astrology, Blue Sapphire or Neelam is the Stone of Saturn.  Saturn is owner of 10th house in the natural zodiac. It gives the result of our previous karma. Very harsh and a very tough teacher who punishes too much if he is not happy but in the same time when he favors a person he gives in abundance. Blue sapphire is used to strengthen Saturn in the horoscope. Planets strength should be measured by various way like, Shadbala, house ownership, conjunction, aspect etc.

We should wear blue sapphire when saturn is functional benefic. Certain planets that are ill disposed can create havoc if they get strength by wearing their gem stone. For Taurus Ascendant, saturn owns 9th and 10th house. This is a Yogakaraka planet. So a first rated benefic planet. So if a Taurus Ascendant person wears Neelam during the Dasha of Saturn, it will help him a lot.  But in the same time for Leo Lagna Saturn owns, sixth and seventh house. Now if such saturn is sitting in Lagna and the native wears Blue sapphire to further strengthening it, it will increase disease and obstacles in that persons life. We should not wear gem stone of sixth lord or seventh lord or any planet which is sitting in the sixth house. In these situations we should recite the mantras to pacify the planet and remove the ill effects. The impact of saturn is significant and immediate. So its stone should wear only after consultation with a Astrologer.

Its main chemical composition is Aluminum oxide. Yellow and transparent Aluminum oxide is known as Yellow Sapphire or Pokhraj and Blue colored same species is known as blue sapphire.Its refractive index ranges between 1.76 to 1.77. It is the second hardest mineral after diamond. It is the intensity and saturation of colors which is the main deciding factor in case of gemstone. The 4C-colour, clarity, cut and carat weight should be considered.  Origin is also an important factor. The Sri Lankan, Burmese, Madagaskar are the most premium collection of blue sapphire. But all that glitter is not gold. Similarly all colored stone is not astrological stone. Synthetic or Lab manufactured stones may look similar to natural gems but they are not astrological gems. They have no astrological significance.

Many Astrologers suggests to test it before wearing by keeping it under pillow. If you get good dream then it suits you. But remember a stone which does not suit you can harm you even during testing. Last but not the least, The gem should be consecrated or abhimantrit in your name and your birth star or janma nakshtra. There is a spiritual procedure to do this. It increase strength and effect of the strength significantly.
